This is actually the gold purity of the metal alloy or put another way – 24 karats corresponds to “1000” which is pure gold, “585” is actually 58.5% gold and 41.5% impurities, “750” similarly means 75% gold and 25% impurities. As here it does not matter whether the gold is white or yellow. The colour is produced by the impurities in question, which can be silver, copper, nickel, platinum, palladium, etc.

Gemstones:

The etymology of the word carat comes from the ancient Greek “keration”- meaning a type of carob seed that weighs exactly as much as 1 carat , namely 0.2 g. It is used as a unit of measurement for precious stones. That is, if you have, for example, a diamond that is 0.5 carats, it simply means that your stone weighs 0.1 gram.

I hope you enjoyed reading it!
