“As some of you may know I am originally from the seaside city of Varna and my grandfather was a captain all his life. His fascinating stories of sea voyages were numerous. Everyone here has an acquaintance, friend or relative who ‘travels’. This collection encapsulates many meanings, nostalgia for the sea, the memory of my grandfather, the excitement of a long voyage. But my personal conception lies in the sea knots themselves. For a knot to be considered good, it must be easy to make, not tighten further when pulled, and just as easy to untie when needed. I chose one that is used to connect two ropes, just as we intertwine the fates with our loved ones. Similarly, the symbolism I put in is that for a relationship to be good, it must resist tension without suffocating or deforming us and we must be as whole together as we are apart.
